Free Agent Punter Round Up

The eve of free agency has dawned. Those that have set with nervous excitement to see who their team signs do not have to wait much longer. This is my breakdown of the punting position in free agency. I highlight Adam Podlesh, Donnie Jones, Mat Mcbriar, and Sav Rocca.

Adam Podlesh

As mentioned in an earlier post, Adam Podlesh was released by the Bears. I reiterate from my earlier post, this is no shock. Podlesh ranked 29th in punt average last year with 37.9 yards a punt. Podlesh will surely get a one year deal somewhere to prove himself. If he expects to do anything beyond that, he’ll have to prove himself this coming year.

Stats: 68 Punts, 2763 yards, 65 long, 40.6 AVG, 37.9 Net AVG, 1 Block, 11 OOB (Out of Bounds), 27 Inside 20, 2 TB, 25 FC (Fair Catch), 15 RET, 111 Return Yds Allowed

Donnie Jones

Donnie Jones is coming off a year with the Eagles where he ranked in the Top 10 in Yards, Net AVG, and Inside the 20. Jones has been a quality punter in his career. He’s been a 2 time second team All Pro (2008, 2009) and has played well in almost everywhere he’s been. He’ll surely get snatched up by someone.

Stats: 82 Punts, 3681 Yards, 3358 Net Yds, 70 long, 44.9 AVG, 40.5 Net AVG, 1 Block Allowed, 9 OOB, 33 Inside the 20, 5 TB, 22 FC, 28 RET, 223 Return Yards, 1 TD Allowed

Mat Mcbriar

Mat Mcbriar just hasn’t been able to get on his feet since leaving the Dallas Cowboys. he hasn’t been the same since his case of drop foot with the Cowboys. Once one of the best, he’s now just not the same player. He’ll be looking to find a team that can help him get back on his feet after spending the year with the Steelers.

Stats (Note: Only played nine games): 40 Punts, 1652 Yds, 1435 Net Yds, 70 long, 41.3 AVG, 35 Net AVG, 1 Block, 5 OOB, 13 Inside the 20, 3 TB, 10 FC, 18 RET, 157 Return Yds allowed

Sav Rocca

And the man with by far the best name on this list, Sav Rocca. Sav spent last year with the Redskins before being released last week. A quandary in my mind, he can surely punt, but he’s not a marquee name in my opinion.

Stats: 84 Punts, 3526 Yds, 2871 Net Yds, 63 Long, 42 AVG, 33.8 Net AVG, 1 Block, 18 OOB, 26 Inside the 20, 18 FC, 39 RET, 655 Return Yds Allowed, 3 TD Allowed
